First Musical Memory: In second grade, I co-starred, as the shoemaker’s wife, in our class musical, “The Shoemaker and the Elves”, which was presented at a school assembly. We were also invited down to one of the local radio stations to do a live broadcast in their studio. Another early memory is one that I feel inspired my love of classical music. On Sundays, my mother, sister and I would visit my maternal grandparents. At 2 PM my grandfather would turn the radio on, which was by his favorite chair, and invite me to sit near him while we listened to the Italian-American hour-Italian art songs, excerpts from operas, and Italian folk songs. I didn't understand a word, but I was mesmerized by the beautiful music which was so different from the popular songs we usually heard. Favorite piece of music: I enjoy most music and it would be difficult to name just one piece, but I can say that my favorite composers are Mozart and Handel. I find so many of their works full of very intense drama which propels the listener or musician through a wide array of emotions. |
